Leads the ridge days and the family walks. Qualified for technical terrain.

Conglomerate towers with their own names, and a ridge traverse between them.
Ciucaș is quieter than the Bucegi and stranger to look at. The conglomerate has weathered into towers and mushrooms that have their own names locally, and the ridge traverse between them is one of the better walks in the region.
Six hundred and eighty metres of ascent, then a high line between formations with drops on both sides in places. Nothing technical, but not a path for someone uneasy with height.
It is further from the tourist route and there is no cable car. That is the whole appeal.
About an hour and ten to the Cheia side.
Steady climbing on a good path, roughly two hours to the treeline.
Tigăile Mari and the towers around them. How conglomerate weathers into these shapes.
The high line between formations. Exposed in sections, spectacular throughout.
A different line down, through meadow and then forest.
Late afternoon.

Similar effort, less sustained exposure, stranger scenery. If you want one mountain day and are unsure, this is often the better first choice.
There is a chalet on the route that is usually open in summer, but do not rely on it. Bring lunch.
