What the day is like

Forest, gorge and the Seven Ladders. The gentlest mountain day we run, and the best one with children.

The gentlest mountain day we run, and the one that works best with children. Forest most of the way, a gorge with a boardwalk, and the Seven Ladders waterfall at the top of it.

The ladders

The gorge is climbed on a series of steel ladders and walkways bolted to the rock beside the falls. It is secure and well maintained, but it is vertical ladder climbing and it is wet.

If ladders are not for you

There is a bypass path. Say so on the day and the guide will route you round — you meet the group at the top.

Questions people ask

Is it safe for children?

From about eight, yes, with the usual caveat that they need to be steady on ladders and do as the guide says. There is a bypass path if anyone would rather not.

Will we get wet?

A bit. The gorge is damp and the spray reaches the walkways. Nothing that a jacket does not handle.

Does it run in winter?

The forest walk does. The ladders ice up and close, and we will tell you honestly when that has happened rather than take you there.
