Getting here, what the region is like through the year, what to bring, and the questions we are asked most.
Brașov sits about two and a half hours by road from Bucharest, and there are direct trains from Bucharest Gara de Nord that take roughly the same time. The nearest airports are Bucharest Otopeni and, for some routes, Sibiu.
Everything we run is a day trip from Brașov. You keep the same bed for the whole of your stay, and we collect you from your accommodation or from an agreed point in the centre.
Spring — green, wet underfoot, and the best time for wildflowers on the lower meadows. Snow lingers high into May.
Summer — the full mountain programme runs. Long days, warm valleys and afternoon thunderstorms that we plan around rather than ignore.
Autumn — the best light of the year, raptor migration over the ridges, and quieter trails. Our own favourite season.
Winter — the city and Saxon village walks run as normal. High mountain days do not, unless you are equipped and experienced, in which case talk to us.
City and village walks. Comfortable shoes you can stand in for three hours and something for rain. Cobbles are slippery when wet.
Mountain days. Boots with ankle support and a real sole, waterproofs top and bottom, a warm layer even in August, two litres of water, and sun protection. The mountains make their own weather and it changes fast.
Wildlife. Muted colours, no perfume or scented deodorant, and clothing that does not rustle. We provide optics.
We will send you a specific list when we confirm your booking. If you are missing something, tell us — we would rather lend you a jacket than have you turn back.
It depends entirely on the day. Our city walks need nothing more than the ability to walk for three hours on the flat. A full Făgăraș day is eleven hours with over a thousand metres of ascent. Every experience states its distance, ascent and grade, and the request form asks about your walking so we can tell you honestly if something is not right for you.
We cancel mountain days when the weather makes them dangerous — lightning risk, high wind on exposed ground, or poor visibility where route-finding matters. You choose another date or take a full refund. We would rather lose the booking than take you somewhere we should not.
You can request either. A private day is just your group. A shared day means up to the stated maximum, usually six to twelve people depending on the experience. Tell us which you prefer on the request form.
On many of our days, yes. Each experience states a minimum age where one applies, set by the terrain rather than by policy. The Piatra Mare forest walk and the Saxon village days work particularly well with children.
No. Everything we run is a day trip, and you sleep wherever you already are. It keeps things simple and it means you are not tied to our choice of hotel.
Not on this website. You send a request, a guide replies with availability and what it costs for your group size, and payment is arranged after you confirm. There is no deposit taken online.
English and Romanian across the team, with German, French and Italian available on some dates. Ask for the language you want on the request form and we will match a guide or tell you honestly that we cannot.
Not individually. We assign whoever knows that ground and that season best, and we tell you who it is when we confirm. If you have a language requirement or you have been out with someone before and want them again, say so and we will do what we can.
