Brașov sits in a bowl with a forested mountain rising straight out of the middle of town. It was one of the seven Saxon walled towns, it made its money on the trade route between Transylvania and Wallachia, and enough of the walls, towers and guild buildings survive that the shape of the medieval town is still legible.
