September and early October, when the raptor migration is moving through. The rest of the summer is quieter but still good for woodland species.

Slow. This is standing and watching, not walking.

Is it worth it outside the migration season?

It is a different day — woodland species rather than raptors overhead. Good, but if the migration is what you want, come in September.
